| Harrison Hill is the heart of the NEW South Wayne. Due south on Calhoun street, the principle thoroughfare of the city; fifteen minutes ride on the car line which goes direct to Harrison Hill. Just two blocks from the New South Side School site. Fronts on the north on Rudisill Boulevard, part of the "around the city boulevard system." -- 1915 | Well now, here we are eighty five years later, and even though Calhoun seems to have lost its claim as "the principle thoroughfare of the city," and even though the street cars that used to serve our neighborhood are barely a memory, Harrison Hill remains "the heart of the NEW South Wayne," and South Side High School is once again the "New South Side School" with a beautiful new campus, including a brand new swimming pool. |
| The Harrison Hill Neighborhood is located southwest of the intersection of Rudisill and Calhoun. Harrison Hill Elementary, St. John the Baptist Catholic, Unity Lutheran, Ben Geyer, South Side and Bishop Luers schools are all within easy walking distance. Taylor University and the Shawnee Branch of the library are also nearby. | |
| The Harrison Hill Neighborhood consists of the 207 homes on and around the Cornell Circle - Seminole Circle - Harrison Boulevard area. Most of the children who live in the Harrison Hill Neighborhood walk to school. The circles of Harrison Hill are laid out with large easements, where children walk and play instead of alleys behind the homes. Southgate shopping plaza and Foster Park are within walking or bike-riding distance. Foster Park has playground, tennis courts, Fairview golf course, baseball diamonds and soccer fields as well as plenty of trails and miles of paved bike paths along the St. Marys river. The homes along Harrison Boulevard are some of the most beautiful in the city, with large front lawns and park areas set out along the middle of the boulevard. | |
