Harrison Hill Neighborhood Meeting Minutes 1-7-2003

Julie Goodall (RevJulia@aol.com 745-8012) is the pastor at Grace St. John’s United Church of Christ. The church would like to get more involved in the neighborhood. Some upcoming items are: Feb 6th, all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner from 5:30-7:30pm at Grace St. John’s $6. Feb 15th there will be a several hundred member choir sing at St. John the Baptists Church. August 9th we’re planning a block party in conjunction with the neighborhood association.

A copy of the budget was discussed without comment.

Caroling in December was a success. We visited many homes and the residents and kids all seemed to have a great time.

Our December Neighborhood Meeting was also a Potluck/Pitchin Dinner. We had more food than meeting and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

Tony and Ceil Georgi at 335 S. Cornell were voted the best decorated home by the Christmas carolers and will be awarded a $25 prize. Jim and Jan Davis at 4102 S. Harrison won honorable mention for their beautiful decorations.

There is an upcoming announcement about Southtown Mall in the works.  Note:  The announcement was that a Menards would be moving into the Southtown Mall location to be opened by May of 2004.

The Neighborhood Association is considering different types of projects for area improvement: The brick wall at the Rudisill entrance needs repaired, lighting is needed for the Calhoun and Rudisill entrances. Many sidewalks in our neighborhood need repairing. There are several avenues we can take as a neighborhood toward paying for these repairs, including grant  money and Barrett law.

The Post Office sent a letter verifying that we do not HAVE to move our mailboxes. It is voluntary.

The Neighborhood can put out barrels for salting the street and the city will fill the barrels with salt when notified that they are empty. We voted to purchase five barrels (and will get volunteers to build frames to hold the barrels at the entrances). The barrels are $5 apiece.

We plan to have a Komet Hockey night ($5 a ticket) on March 15th at 7pm. Grace St. John’s and Harrison Hill Neighborhood combined.

Our next meeting is Feb 4th at 7pm at Grace St. Johns.
